Fracture Types

The following diagram illustrates three fracture types, each possibly requiring a different type of brace.  Your doctor or surgeon will determine the type of fracture you have and the brace that will offer you the best chance for recovery.  Common fractures for which we see patients include thumb, finger, wrist, arm, patella, humurus, clavical, leg, ankle & foot and vertebrae stress fractures.  More rare cases include halos and braces for the skull and spinal cord.  Your primary care doctor or specialist will know what brace is right for you.

Each orthosis is fitted following the doctor’s prescription and modified or custom fabricated for the specific needs of the patient.

Fracture bracing is an active treatment that is used after the resolution of acute symptoms.  The objective of fracture orthotics is to apply a device that allows for early graded function and is capable of adjusting to volume changes of the injured extremity. It is usually lightweight, durable, easy to apply and adjustable but requires consistent monitoring of the physician and orthotist.
